Pumpkin Face and Prismacolor Pencil Tutorial

I have been asked several times to do a tutorial sharing my shading with color technique, so here it is!

First however, please allow me to share with you the beautiful site where I received this image. It's called, Digital 2 For Tuesday. Cora does an amazing job with these images she scouts out. I hope you find a few moments to visit and use some of the FREE images she finds.

And now...the TUTORIAL.
To do the coloring, I will use colored pencils and mineral spirits. First, I use my Prismacolor Pencils to lightly color in the images. You don't want to use much pressure, so you don't flatten the tooth of the paper.

Next, I use a red or crimson pencil to shade. Again, tread lightly with the pencil. In total, I will use two pencils to shade: first the red, then the blue.**Tip:  I use these instead of a grey or black, as the color gives more depth and "life" to the images.

Here is the blue added. Use a dark blue, such as Cerulean.

Now that I have them shaded, I will use mineral spirits and a paper nub to bring out the color and get rid of the coloring lines.

This is the fun part! Simply dip the  paper nub into the ms and color in circles over the separate parts of your image. Watch the color become simply brilliant!

At this point, I can see where I need to add more base color. I add the orange, green, etc and use more spirits to blend.

Here is the finished card.
I think I'll enter this in some challenges!
2.  Crafty Creations - Spooks
3.  Creative Belli Blog - Halloween (gold glitter I never use!)
15. Sassy Cheryl's Digi's - Trick or Treat Time
16. Tip Top Tuesday - halloween (**Tip: use color to shade instead of black or grey, to make your image more brilliant) See above tutorial.

I hope this is helpful. Please email me if you have any questions about this tutorial. Oh! and check my past posts for more examples of this technique... I use it alot!

Stay creative,
...Bev
